Cyclonus /w Nightstick
Sideswipe
Silverstreak
I haven't done a Transformers review in awhile so I thought I'd do a group review of the 3 I just bought, Universe / Classics 2.0 Cyclonus, Sideswipe and Silverstreak. I haven't done a Classics / Universe review yet, so first off, I just want to say that I love this line. They are not as realistic as the Alternators / Binaltech or Masterpiece lines but they sure look good and are fun to play with! I also love it that they look like Generation 1 (G1) characters.
Cyclonus /w Nightstick - 8.5 / 10
There haven't been too many versions of Cyclonus over the years, so there's not much to compare him to. I wasn't a fan of the G1 version as it looked ugly and was a brick. I don't mind the brick part but it should as least look good. I believe the colour scheme of this toy was meant to resemble the colour scheme of the G1 toy, whereas the Henkei (Japanese) version's colour scheme was meant to match the G1 cartoon. Personally, I find the Henkei purple too light so overall, I would say that I like Hasbro's colour scheme better, although it's not perfect. My only complaint with it really, is that there are three shades of gray on him. There's a light shade of gray on the upper part of his body, then as you go down, his upper thighs are a darker gray and then his lower thighs are a dark beige-ish gray. I don't quite understand why they added the beige-ish grey.
In robot mode, he looks pretty cool. The legs might be a bit skinny but I don't mind that. He has a nice silver Decepticon insignia on his chest. I prefer this to the rubs signs that were on the Classics 1.0 figures. He's got many points of articulation; head rotates 360 degrees on one plane, shoulders rotation 360 degrees, arms can bend outwards to the sides, elbows bends 90 degrees, legs bend at the hips and knees, feet only have up and down movement.
The jet mode looks cool but not as tightly fitted as I would like. I find it typical of the futuristic jet design.
Cyclonus also comes with Targetmaster Nightstick, which transforms into his gun. Nice little gimmick.
The jet mode could be a bit more tightly packed and the colour scheme could use one less shade of gray but overall, it's a pretty cool toy. The Targetmaster also adds some nice playability. I give this toy an 8.5 / 10.
Sideswipe / Sunstreaker - 9.5 / 10 & 9 / 10
Sideswipe was one of the toys I was really looking forward to getting because I had previously already gotten Sunstreaker and I don't have any Sideswipe / Sunstreaker pairs in my collection... until now! I dislike the ugly G1 Sunstreaker and I wasn't enthusiastic about getting the Alternators / Binaltech Sunstreaker so I was really happy when the Universe line came out with a good looking Sunstreaker. Being the vain character that he was in the G1 cartoon, I found it inappropriate to own an ugly looking Sunstreaker.
Sideswipe and Sunstreaker are actually the same mold, yet they look significantly different. They are about as different as Prowl and Jazz. You can see that there are certainly similarities between them but you can also tell that they are not just a repaint of each other. I really appreciate the thought that went into the design of these figures. I like Sideswipe's colour scheme a lot better than Sunstreaker's. Sideswipe is a beautiful bright red with white and black highlights. He has a good amount of articulation; his head rotates 360 degrees and also moves up and down a little bit, is arm rotates 360 degrees but has limited movement to the sides, his elbows bend about 70 degrees, wrist rotates, waist rotates, legs bend backwards and forwards at the hips with limited movement to the side, knees bend, the feet are on a ball-joint so it can move around a bit. He comes with a gun which can be held in his hand or mounted on his should, similar to his G1 look.
There aren't any features in vehicle mode but it looks great.
Overall, I give Sideswipe a 9.5 and Sunstreaker a 9 because I like the way Sideswipe looks much better.
Silverstreak - 9.5 / 10
Silverstreak / Bluestreak was never one of my favourite G1 characters but now I have 3 molds of this character. In robot mode, Silverstreak / Bluestreak looks very similar to his G1 cartoon self. From pictures I've seen on the web, I was not a big fan of this mold, but now that I've seen the figure live, I think it looks great. The pictures on the web don't do justice to the awesome posability of this figure. His head rotates 360 degrees but does not move up or down, arms move in and out and rotate around the should joints but is impeded by his "wings", his elbow bends about 60 degrees, his legs move backwards and forwards and out to the sides, he has double knee joints which allow for some nice leg poses.
The vehicle mode is very solid and looks very nice.
Overall, I give this figure a 9.5 / 10.
